“Through that which I have experienced; in Apartheid South Africa; the people I have met in everyday life or in the books they have written - it is they whom have left on me an indeligible mark. That which has stayed with me, and persistently finds expression in my art, is this mysterious, transcendent love. A relational love. A different love. A love that cannot have its source in even the noblest humanity. A love that must pass through the womb of suffering; but paradoxically, after it has suffered and by God's grace alone, supernaturaly resists that poisioning compulsion to become bitter. So instead it gives birth to that rare, precious and eternal thing – Joy.
It is the love that comes from living the life of Another. It is a love that is perfected in this life but has neither its beginning nor end here. A love few know exists but even fewer ever find.”
